Why people love it

  • Central management and remote administration · 5

Yes, a home product with a dedicated controller unit, Fx networking support, cloud based management with ability to self-host, traffic shaping and SDN capabilities.

    Nov 2025 · comment

I've also been able to deploy UniFi for my parents and my wife's parents, and easily manage their setups remotely.

    May 2026 · comment

The APs are fine. Decent power and the central administration with the switch is actually quite nice.

  • Reliable access points and radios · 6

Ubiquiti has gone downhill on a lot of things the last 5 years or so, but their radio firmware has always been a step up

    Dec 2025 · comment

I've deployed 40+ unifi APs at some locations with 800+ devices over multiple ssids with no issues.

    Nov 2025 · comment

Unifi APs are a sweet spot of price/performance, and I have no difficulty recommending them.

  • Self-hosted, cloud optional · 3

The Unifi range is quite definitely optional cloud. Don't turn it on (and don't use a cloud-based controller!), and it won't have any mechanism for control.

    May 2026 · comment

I've been a fan of Ubiquiti APs managed by a self-installed UniFi instance without cloud features

    Dec 2025 · comment

you can use a company that is self hosted like Unifi and have complete control over your data

    Jun 2026 · comment

All in all their eco system is worth it imo and the hardware is actually affordable.

    Dec 2025 · comment

Ubiquiti did a good job of advertising these features and making them available to the “prosumer” segment

What people warn about

  • Routing weaker than wireless and switching · 2

Ubiquiti unifi has struggled to integrate routing as reliably and as well as the wireless and switching piece.

    Jul 2026 · comment

Obviously the gateway or router missing proper v6 support is an issue and a bit surprising ubt hasn't done a good job.

    Jan 2026 · comment
  • Bugs and stability issues · 3

it is pretty damn good but there are bugs, and unfortunately their support sucks

    May 2026 · comment

after 2 different more advanced configs I had caused wild stability issues - affecting APs, a USG and the controller itself

their faulty dual UI POE switches (Make a change in the old UI? Welp thats going to wipe your comments from the new one!)

    Jul 2026 · comment
  • Painful outside standard setups · 4

I generally have moved towards other Wifi solutions as I've grown weary of tweaking Ubiquiti all of the time

    Dec 2025 · comment

I'm much more pleased with it than the Ubiquity gear that I am presently taking a break from fighting with.

    Dec 2025 · comment

if you are doing anything that is not a defined happy path for Unifi, it is a freaking nightmare

    May 2026 · comment
  • Spotty IPv6 support · 3

Unifi has had some regressions in IPv6 support over the years, but that's fixed these days

    Jan 2026 · comment

The only downside is this doesn't work if you have IPv6 enabled as UniFi Network still allows those to bypass the VPN.
