Kobo Store

What hackers pick instead

• O'Reilly subscriptionPeople recommend it for skimming several books on a topic before choosing one, plus labs and videos. Critics find the app clunky and say buying single books is cheaper.24recommend
• Bookshop.orgPeople recommend Bookshop.org as an ethical alternative to Amazon that shares profits with local bookstores and lets you filter ebooks by DRM-free status.15recommend
• AbeBooksPeople use AbeBooks to find old, out-of-print and first editions from used booksellers, often cheaper than other storefronts. One caveat raised: searching for old books can be hard.8recommend
• ebooks.comOnline ebook store with a DRM-free section, so purchased epubs can be moved into Calibre and owned rather than locked to one app.6recommend
• Humble Bundle Linux the Good Stuff BundlePeople recommend it for No Starch Press books and charity donations, with 15 items for $36. One critic says it costs more than past bundles.3recommend
