# Dell UltraSharp 52 Thunderbolt Hub Monitor

27 Hacker News commenters recommended Dell UltraSharp 52 Thunderbolt Hub Monitor and 35 criticized it, November 2025 to November 2026. It was recommended in 2 of 13 months; owners who said how long report a median of 2 years (3 owners).

**Verdict:** People recommend it for native resolution with no scaling, a built-in KVM for switching between systems, and text sharp enough for all-day reading. Critics say the 52-inch size is hard on ergonomic viewing.

## Why people recommend it

- Native resolution with no scaling (2 comments): "The PPI is small, but this is what I wanted because it better supports native resolutions with no scaling on legacy apps I run." ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46675223)) "No scaling required? Great!" ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46649782))
- Text crisp enough for all-day reading (2 comments): "This monitor really does everything. It's crisp enough to read text on all day, unlike many gaming monitors." ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46652253)) "5k text is visibly better than 4k at 27"" ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46650568))
- Good value for its size (2 comments): "good deal considering it's much smaller and twice the price" ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46652793)) "$2900 seems pretty reasonable to me considering the size." ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46651387))

## What people warn about

- Edges hard to view, ergonomic strain (4 comments): "Also the viewing angle degradation is too much, so much so that it irritates to look at the edge of the screen from the center." ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46658700)) "I can't imagine a 52" - the edges would be so far away that it must be hard to read text without physically moving left/right" ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46649015)) "I am not sure I recommend it. I went from a 40" to a 52", and I'm just moving my head waaay too much and my shoulders hurt." ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46650357))
- Price is steep (3 comments): "Looks nice enough. But seems pretty steep." ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46650596)) "Expansive and expensive at the same time!" ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46650882)) "The very expensive monitor your internet buddy waxed poetic about six months ago is now half the price and also half the monitor." ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46656384))
- Hub and dock compatibility problems (2 comments): "I had issues with it not working when trying to use another dock with my Thinkpad" ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46656581)) "I had to replace 2 of the dell ultra sharp super ultra wides due to failing USB C hub / PD parts." ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46651767))
- Aspect ratio too wide (2 comments): "It's passable, but I don't like the aspect ratio very much, it's too wide" ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47268333)) "16:9 just isn't a very nice aspect ratio imo, the extra height on 16:10 is much better." ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46649997))
